Getting it right

What to know about Asian language projects

Simplified or Traditional Chinese

Mainland China and Singapore read Simplified Chinese; Taiwan and Hong Kong read Traditional. Vocabulary differs too, so we assign a linguist from your readers’ market.

Politeness levels

Japanese and Korean change their wording for customers, partners and colleagues. We agree the level of formality with you before we start.

Scripts and fonts

Bengali, Urdu and East Asian scripts need the right fonts, and Urdu reads right to left. We check every character in your final files, not only in the translation.

Names and numbers

Name order, and large numbers counted in units of 10,000 in Chinese and Japanese, are easy to get wrong. A second linguist checks every name and figure against the original.

FAQ

Asian language translation questions

Bengali, Chinese, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Tagalog, Traditional Chinese for Taiwan, Urdu, and Vietnamese each have their own page with rates and details. For other Asian languages, send us the language pair, and we will confirm a native linguist within 24 hours.

Translation plus revision starts at $0.08 per word. The rate depends on the language pair and subject, and you get a fixed quote within 24 hours, so the price is agreed before we start.

Both. We use Simplified Chinese for mainland China and Singapore, and Traditional Chinese for Taiwan and Hong Kong, with a linguist from that market.

We agree the level of politeness with you before we start, based on who will read the text, and keep it the same in every file.

Our team translates up to 12,000 words per day. Most projects are delivered within a few working days, and several languages can run at the same time.
