Urdu, done right

What we get right in Urdu that generic translation misses

Nastaliq, not Naskh

Urdu is written in the Nastaliq style, which slopes and stacks letters. Text set in an Arabic Naskh font looks foreign to Urdu readers, and many design tools render it badly. We set Urdu in a proper Nastaliq font and check every page after layout.

Urdu or Hindi

Spoken Urdu and Hindi are close, but Urdu uses the Perso-Arabic script and Hindi uses Devanagari, and formal vocabulary differs. Hindi text is unreadable to many Urdu readers. We confirm which language and script your readers use.

Pakistan or India

Urdu in Pakistan and in India shares its grammar, but legal terms, institutions and some everyday words differ. We match the vocabulary to where your readers live.

Roman Urdu

Many people in Pakistan text and post in Urdu written with English letters. For SMS, social ads and chat, Roman Urdu can reach readers faster than Nastaliq. We advise which script fits each channel and can deliver both.

Right to left, with English inside

Urdu reads right to left, but numbers, brand names and URLs run left to right in the same line. Mixed lines can scramble in forms and PDFs. We set text direction and check every mixed line in your final files.

Aap, not tum

Urdu has three levels of “you”: aap (respectful), tum (familiar) and tu (intimate). Health, public and business content should use aap. We keep the respectful form and plain words for readers with different schooling.

Urdu translation questions

How much does Urdu translation cost?

Translation plus revision starts at $0.06 per word. The rate depends on the language pair and subject, and certified documents start at $20 per page. Rush delivery adds 25%, and your fixed quote sets the price and delivery date before we start.

Do you translate Urdu and Hindi?

Yes, as separate languages. Urdu is written in Nastaliq script and Hindi in Devanagari, so each goes to its own native translators. Tell us who your readers are, and we confirm the language and script.

Do you translate Urdu for US public programs?

Yes. Urdu is one of the ten languages New York City agencies must offer under Local Law 30, and health plans and providers often need it for patient notices. We translate in plain, respectful Urdu and keep notice templates consistent across updates.

How long does an Urdu translation take?

Our Urdu team translates up to 12,000 words per day. Larger projects are delivered in batches, and rush delivery is available at +25%.

Can you deliver Urdu in our design files?

Yes. We typeset Urdu in InDesign, Word, and PDF with a Nastaliq font, right-to-left direction, and correct line spacing, then check every page after layout.

Do you provide Urdu interpreters?

Yes. We provide Urdu interpreting by phone and video for health, legal, and community appointments. Tell us the date, length, and subject, and your quote confirms the interpreter and the cost.

Do you use machine or AI translation?

Only if you ask for it. By default, every Urdu file is translated by a native human linguist and revised by a second one.
